I have a mini confession, I’m a shopaholic! I buy way too much. Sometimes I think I need something but It turns out I already have it at home, it just is stuffed in a drawer somewhere and sucked into the black hole. I don’t ever really use all of something. I doubt I’ll ever have an almost empties post on my blog lol :). I’m super guilty of buying something just because there’s an offer or a sale. I hoard so bad! This is why I need to stop shopping and why I think you should too!
The other day I had a bit of a reality check. I was cleaning out some of my makeup drawers and noticed how much I was throwing away, mainly because I never used it or it was out of date etc. Some of it wasn’t even opened but was years old! I thought to my self, how come I have a perfectly good looking lipstick here, never opened but still went and bought more! Seeing all of the thrown away items and the charity bags full to the brim with clothes made me really think about how damaging this is. Not just to my purse but to the environment too.
The amount of resources that go into making these products for them to just be chucked into a big landfill. It’s truly heart breaking to think a poor animal has been through such pain to create this lipstick for me to just bin it. Not to even mention the labour that goes into making clothing. The cost of the water used in the clothing making process is extortionate! If you really stop to think, even if just a handful of people stopped it could help massively! If everyone cuts down think of how great of an impact it would have! I think that by me cutting down my shopping habits, It’s going to make me happier too. I’ll be able to really appreciate the things I have. Maybe even go back to some old items. Just thinking about it now makes me feel so guilty. Knowing that I alone could help just by making some small changes, that will not only benefit the earth but will also benefit me.
Shop in moderation! Don’t end up finding an old shirt 3 years later to say oh this could of been cool, shame it doesn’t fit me anymore. Sometimes what you think you need, you already have. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic please let me know below!
